Open Question: The best place(s) to live in Atlanta?

I'll be a freshman in college next year possibly in Atlanta, Georgia. I've been looking for places to live 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. I see all of the different places I could get one but I don't know what area to get it in. I want a descent scenery, minutes away from the nightlife and malls. I'm familiar with Midtown, could I find any 1 or 2 bedrooms in that area for under $1000 a month? The school I'm looking at is in Marietta, so I don't want it to far from there.
